The Dutch exclusive holiday resort Hof van Saksen, which is a part of Landal GreenParks, has opend three spectacular indoor water slides, including the world’s biggest indoor water slide. In doing so, Hof van Saksen will consolidate its leading position on the international holiday market. The resort has invested more than EUR 7 million (approx USD 8,1 million)  in the construction of the exclusive slides and there are plans to add another two slides over the coming years.

Guests will be able to climb to the top of a tower designed in the architectural style of the province of Drenthe, and from there choose one of the three slides: the biggest indoor water slide in the world, the highest slide for inflatables in the Benelux countries, or the highest and steepest speed slide in the Netherlands. The total length of the three slides is 422 metres. Sustainable techniques and materials were used in the construction of the slides and they were developed to use as little energy as possible.

The ultimate experience for the whole family

“This combination of slides will particularly appeal to families with children, and to teenagers too,” commented Erik van Essen, Commercial Director for Landal GreenParks. “Our guests tell us that aquatic fun is integral to their overall holiday experience and we have now created the ultimate aquatic experience for them. Just two weeks ago, Hof van Saksen also won a Kids ZwemparadijsTip! award in the ‘Holiday with indoor swimming pool’ category for the third year in a row. The award is voted for by the public and a great many of our guests voted for us.”

Surprising guests, again and again

Great care was taken in the development and construction of the aquatic slides. Visits were made to luxury resorts and exclusive aquatic parks around the world before Hof van Saksen came up with the plans for the unique slides itself. Roland Rozenbroek, General Manager at Hof van Saksen, explains why: “We want to continue to surprise our guests, always offering them something new. Water slides for the whole family such as these can be found nowhere else.”

Four people can go down the world’s biggest indoor slide at a time, seated in an inflatable. After a 10-metre free fall, they reach speeds of 50 km per hour and end up in a funnel with a diameter of 19 metres.

The second slide, which is 18.5 metres high, is the highest slide for inflatables in the Benelux countries. Two people can go down it at the same time and they can choose the light effects they see on the way down themselves. They then make a 360-degree turn four times while descending.

The third slide, which is the highest and steepest indoor speed slide in the Netherlands, is a body slide on which speeds of up to 60 km per hour can be achieved. This will appeal to true daredevils.

The top of the slides can be reached via a 25-metre-high tower designed in the architectural style of the province of Drenthe.

The water slides will be exclusively open to Hof van Saksen guests. If there is sufficient capacity, there will also be access for the resort’s day guests.

An unforgettable stay

Over recent years, Hof van Saksen has introduced many innovations and novelties to its farmhouses, its facilities and the activities it offers in order to ensure that the resort continues to be able to measure up to international competition. When it comes to culinary delights, guests can choose from five restaurants and there are educational academies, such as the Fashion Academy and the Technology Academy, for children. “We continually invest to make sure that our guests have an unforgettable stay with us. Hof van Saksen has grown significantly over recent years, not only in terms of occupancy rates but also in terms of guest appreciation,” comments Rozenbroek.

Sustainability

Sustainable choices were made in terms of the technology and materials used for the construction of the three new indoor water slides. They have been designed to use as little energy as possible. By opting for the most efficient heating and air treatment systems, more than 95% of the heat is recovered from the expelled air and refreshed water. Combining this with other energy-saving options at the swimming pool and in De Havezate, the expectation is for the total energy consumption not to increase once the water slides have opened.
