Official opening of sustainable holiday park Landal De Reeuwijkse Plassen

The official opening of Landal De Reeuwijkse Plassen took place on Saturday, 10 December. Taking part in the ceremony were Christiaan van der Kamp (Mayor of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk), Bert Cremers (Mayor of Waddinxveen, in his capacity as Chairman of Groenalliantie, an organisation working to improve the quality of recreational areas in the region), Aart Jan Verdoold (Managing Director of GREEN, the site developer) and Thomas Heerkens (CEO of Landal GreenParks). The gentlemen joined Landal's mascot, Bollo, in turning on a fountain. A fair held to mark the festive opening introduced invited guests to products produced by local businesses and in surrounding municipalities. The first guests are due to be welcomed to the park on 23 December.

This new holiday park, located in the region known as the 'Green Heart' of Holland, is currently the most sustainable park in the Netherlands. It is the first one in the country to generate its own renewable electricity and the first to be allowed to use all of the solar energy it produces. Interaction with the region is also important to the park.

Landal De Reeuwijkse Plassen is characterised by its relationship with the water, nature and region surrounding it. The park's 270 waterfront holiday homes have their own jetty, giving easy access to the recreational lakes. Striking features include the natural look of the park and the holiday homes, and also the solar panels, which cover 600 m2 of the entrance building’s roof. Its location is also unique, with everything having been designed with nature in mind. Guests can go out for bike rides, go sailing and have their lunch out on the lakes, go rambling, or visit nearby Gouda. The cities of The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht can also be reached within half an hour.

Sustainability applications

Not only does the park use its own solar energy, but the individual holiday homes also feature a host of sustainability applications. Each of the homes is fitted with a heat pump and underfloor heating, for example. Sustainable materials, including FSC wood for the exteriors and recycled teak for the interiors of the holiday homes, have been used throughout.

Guest experience"Regional anchoring and sustainability are two major cornerstones for Landal,” explains Thomas Heerkens, CEO of Landal GreenParks. “Guests select their holiday or weekend break on the basis of the surrounding area. Guests visiting the fair held at the opening ceremony were able to see, feel and taste the huge number of plus points the 'Green Heart' region offers, thanks to the great enthusiasm shown by the participating local and regional businesses."
